WW1 Roots for Hero Horses Gala Day
Date: 9th September 2018
Time: 11am - 5pm
Admission: Adults £2. Children £1 under 10
Join us at our inaugural Roots for Hero Horses Gala Day, to officially launch our WW1 War Horses centenary project. Fun events and activities will be taking place throughout the day, including themed music, WW1 demonstrations and activities for kids, as well as pony rides, in the morning and grooming sessions in the afternoon, a surprise guest, talks by equine experts, see a WW1 cart (GS Wagon), and much, much more!
Come and learn some first aid and bandaging techniques in our WW1 Field Hospital – and then administer them to Tommy the soldier on the field hospital stretcher, as well as ‘Old Billy the Horse’ (our mannequin horse).
Enjoy some WW1 inspired homemade lemonade – or if that’s not your thing, our tea shop will be open serving teas, homemade cakes, and other refreshments!
Walk around our newly planted field walks, watch the procession of horses walk up to our reflective remembrance garden area, or paint a poppy on a pebble. For a donation, you can also sponsor a horse shoe to help build our living sculpture. Made from thousands of real horse shoes, together they will form a WW1 war horse spirit sculpture leaving the muddy mire.
There will be lots to do and see and we very much hope to see you! Dogs are also very welcome if kept on a lead.
